Finding my running mojo

Since running the London Marathon last year I’ve kinda been struggling a bit with running. I lost all motivation and passion. I think once the pressure was off and I no longer had to follow such a strict training plan, I just found it all a bit pointless. Don’t get me wrong, I hadn’t given up running all together and was still managing to go out once or twice a week and do a few miles. I just haven’t improved and can no longer run any sort of longer distance. Basically I lost my focus or, as I like to…

Struggling with Slimming World – weight loss update

For the past four weeks I’ve been following the Slimming World plan and as a result I’ve lost 2lbs. Although you can eat a lot on the plan, I’m just finding that for me it just isn’t working fast enough. I was following it really rigidly too, so the lack of results was really frustrating me! When I’m trying to lose weight I like to lose at least 1lb every week, otherwise I get discouraged and give up! With our forthcoming holiday looming, I decided I needed to make a change. My aim is to get to 9st 7lbs before…

Slimming World update

A couple of weeks ago I posted about my plans to start following the Slimming World plan. I’m now on week three, so thought it was time to post an update. The first week I found quite easy. I ate LOTS! I was, however, a little disappointed to find that I’d only lost 1lb. Once I’d had a think about how much I’d eaten that week, I realised that 1lb wasn’t actually too bad. I’m already a healthy weight and don’t have loads to lose, so I suppose I shouldn’t really complain. Apart from a little blip, last weekend, where…

Getting back on the weight-loss wagon with …

Since coming back from our summer holiday at the beginning of August, I’ve really struggled to lose the weight that I put on. I seem to lose a pound, only to put it back on the week after, which is very frustrating! At the end of November, we are going on holiday for my Mum’s 70th birthday and I’m determined to lose 7lbs, so I’m back to my pre-summer holiday weight! I’ve always struggled to lose weight. I’m happiest with my weight when I weigh around 9st 7lbs, but getting and staying there is a bit of a constant battle.…

My First London Marathon – Part 2

Hopefully you’ve read Part 1 of my London Marathon experience. If not, it’s probably worth having a quick glance over before reading this post. So, I was finally there, all ready to go. I felt good, but deep down was a little anxious about whether my recent foot injury would actually hold up enough for me to get over that elusive finish line. I was surprised how quick the race got going and my offcial race stats say I crossed the start at 10.14am, 14 minutes after the race began, which is quite good, athough I perhaps shouldn’t be surprised…

My First London Marathon – Part 1

Spoiler alert!! I did it!!! It’s taken me a while to get around to writing this, mainly because I’ve experienced a whole array of emotions and I think I needed a little time to process the experience. A week ago today I still was sure if I’d be able to do it. Worried that it would be my longest run ever and anxious about injuries flaring up and forcing me to stop. I was determined, but also knew that not everyone who starts, finishes. I want to make sure I capture, what is one of the best weekends of my…

Packing for a marathon – 2 days to go!

It’s two days to go until I run the London Marathon and I’m getting anxious now, so I’ve decided to try and occupy my mind by writing a couple of blog posts. I’ve been off work today and mostly been at home, so my mind has had time to actually think about what I’m going to be doing on Sunday. It’s also had chance to get super paranoid and I actually convinced myself earlier that I have a sore throat (I don’t!). It’s amazing what an anxious mind can conjure up! I’ve just finished packing so thought I’d share what…

One week to go!!

Only one week to go! Before I get carried away, I just want to apologise for the lack of non-marathon related posts recently. Marathon training, working, and the general craziness of life with three children has meant that there really isn’t enough hours in the day to fit in everything that I’d like to. I’m not doing any running this week, so I’m hoping that I can catch up on adding some blog posts about what we’ve been up to. It will help keep my increasingly anxious mind occupied too! So, as I said, only one week to go until…

It’s getting closer!

As I write it is only 12 days until the London Marathon!! I’m excited but am feeling impatient and anxious about getting to the big day feeling well and with no injuries! My foot is still playing up! After my foot hurting a bit after my 11 miles, I thought I’d wait longer than usual before heading out to run again. I did my usual exercise class at work on the Wednesday, which consisted of lots of kettle bell stuff. I then went out on Thursday to do 5 miles. The first 3 were fine, but after that my foot…

‘Maranoia’

After hurting my foot doing my 18 mile run a few weeks back, I’ve been easing off slightly to try and help it repair. Much of last week was spent with me stressing that it could be a stress fracture and that it wouldn’t heal on time. This irrational worry was only fueled by spending far too much time on Google! Apparently this is very normal as we get closer to the end and is infact termed ‘maranoia’! I definitely have it! After taking a week off, the plan was to do a decent run on Sunday. My training plan…

Marathon Training

So, here I am having notched up 16 and 18 miles. Although one slight hitch, the day after doing 18 miles, my right foot hurt. A lot! Thankfully it went after a couple of days, so I didn’t think too much about it. It’s Easter weekend at the min and as I’m a week ahead of my plan I decided to do 11 miles as my long run. I’ve put my body through quite a lot recently and I thought the rest would do it good (I can’t believe I’m calling 11 miles a rest, what has happened to me?!).…
