Novotel Birmingham Airport

Novotel Birmingham Airport

A few days after Christmas we went to Tenerife. Our flight out was quite early in the morning, so we decided to spend the night before at the Novotel Birmingham Airport. Here’s what we thought.

We arrived at the hotel on a Friday evening at about 7pm and my first impression was that it was really busy. However, we didn’t have to wait long at all to check in. Whilst Simon checked us in, a member of staff came over with a little soft toy for each of the kids. They were over the moon and it was the perfect way to start our stay.

Once we were checked in, we went up to the room to drop off our luggage. Our room had a double bed and a double sofa bed for the twins. Oscar was staying in a room with my mum and dad, which was very similar to ours. The rooms were pretty standard and what we expected. We generally find space to be quite tight in hotel rooms as there is so many of us! I’m not sure if they will allow three children is a room, but we find it’s always worth contacting the hotel direct and asking the question.

After we had dropped off our luggage, we headed down  for a bite to eat. There are two restaurants at the Novotel Birmingham Airport. One is more formal and one is a more of a relaxed place, typical of a hotel bar. We chose to eat in the bar. There was a good selection of options and the prices were quite reasonable. I have a Mediterranean vegetable panini, which came with chips (£6.95) and was very tasty. I was also pleasantly surprised that they were serving a selection of Sipsmith hot gins. Now, I love a gin, but I’ve near tried hot gin, so I thought it would be rude not to! Whilst it was ok, I definitely prefer my gin cold with ice and a slice.

One thing that really stood out about the Novotel Birmingham Airport is how well they cater for kids. Just off the main reception there was a crafting area with colouring sheets, stickers and a few arts and crafts bits that the kids could either do there or take with them to the dining table. The twins were particularly impressed with this and were kept very occupied whilst we waiting for our food. Oscar was impressed with the giant chess set and the electronic games table, which featured games such as noughts and crosses.

Once we’d finished our food, we headed back to our room. Whilst waiting for the lift a member of staff noticed that the twins had armfuls of creations and came over the give them a paper bag to put them in. This attentiveness was very unexpected, but made the kids feel really special – we were really impressed.

The twins went pretty much straight to sleep and we all had a decent nights sleep before the alarm went off at 5.15am! Once we were ready to head to the airport we only had to walk across the road!

If you need a place to stay with kids at Birmingham Airport, I would definitely recommend the Novotel. For the price, I really don’t think you’ll find better, plus it’s location couldn’t be better.
