Holiday alternatives to help keep the kids occupied

Willows Activity Farm

It’s that time of year again where families are thinking about where they can take their kids on holiday. However, thanks to the coronavirus a lot of the more typical haunts are off-limits. Florida is now the central hub of the coronavirus crisis leaving Disney trips with a definite question mark. Even if you wanted to go the family entertainment giant has stopped UK residents booking trips until early 2021. So, where should you go? Well, as you’re about to discover there are some great options for adventures around the UK.

Checkout zoos and safaris

Zoos and safaris are both back open now so you can pick your favourite and head over. Or, alternatively, check out one a little further afield. Whipsnade Zoo is great and the paths are particularly fantastic because they are more than large enough to maintain social distancing. You also have the option of driving around in your car and getting out at key points to see the animals.

Alternatively, you could explore Knowsley Safari. That’s near Liverpool and a fun adventure for the kids. One of the best parts about Knowsley is that there’s everything there from a climbing frame to a massive monkey drive through the area. Beware, whether you’re taking your own car or a hire car, there’s a good chance it will get damaged.

Head to the theme parks

Disney World might be coronavirus central right now but that’s not the case for theme parks in the Uk. Many are now open for business including Gulliver’s World and Alton Towers. Regardless of the age of your child, they are guaranteed to love these theme parks just as much as you. There are rides for everyone here and the hotels are back open too. So, you could think about heading there for a week. Our only advice would be to make sure that you arrive at the theme parks early. That way you can avoid the long queues and what could potentially be a socially distanced nightmare. That said, the general consensus is the theme parks in the UK are keeping this under control and everyone safe at the same time.

Explore history

Alternatively, you might want to take the kids on an educational adventure in Britain. There are lots of places to do this. One of the best things to do in York, for instance, is to explore the dungeons. Actors await with special effects in hand to tell some gruesome tales and allow your kids to journey back in time. York is also home of a Viking adventure that is sure to thrill and impress. Who needs Disney World when you can sit in a real Viking trip? If you want to stay outside, there are also ghost trails through the evening.

Of course, if you head to the South of England towards Cornwall, you’ll be able to experience a different part of history. After all, this is the origin place for the legend of the great King Arthur.

We hope this helps you see that there are countless exciting possibilities to explore around the UK. So, there’s no need to head to Spain with the kids or worry that Disney is pretty much off-limits right now. Stay at home and discover what makes Britain great with the little ones in tow.
