Creating a family friendly home to be proud of

When you have a family, you have to design and work your life around them. They become the top of your list of priorities and you’ll do whatever you can to make sure that they are healthy, happy and comfortable in their day to day lives. This is especially true of children, as they are entirely dependent on you. But what can you do to make sure that your family has the best life possible? Well, there are countless areas you can focus on to achieve this, from diet to exercise to education and more. But for now, let’s focus on creating a family friendly home that will meet everyone’s needs and preferences.

Consider Safety

First and foremost, you need to consider safety in your home. There are all sorts of threats to children, especially young children, in the average house – and it’s your job to remove or reduce these threats wherever possible. Of course, alongside using your common sense, there are many options on the market that have been specially designed to protect your children from common household threats. There are cupboard locks to keep little hands out of spaces that could store dangerous medicines, cleaning products or plastic bags. There are wall plug covers to prevent fingers and other objects being inserted into plug sockets. There are blind cord holders to prevent entanglement and suffocation. You can fix furniture to walls to prevent it from toppling. Baby gates block off stairs. The list goes on. Make sure to consider safety from all angles when designing your home.

Flooring

You need to make sensible flooring options when you have little ones. Children are likely to make all sorts of messes on the floor, from toilet training accidents to sick, spilled drinks, spilled food or muddy footprints. It’s safe to say that white, plush carpet isn’t the ideal option for a family home. Make clean ups easier for yourself with Laminate Flooring, wooden flooring or hardy carpets that can take a fair amount of wear and tear.

Dedicated Play Spaces

Children need to play to develop and grow. So, it’s important that they have a dedicated space where they can play and explore. For many children, this is their bedroom. This space can contain all of their toys and be a great environment to learn and grow. If you have a spare room, you may want to turn it into a playroom, which can remove toys and other distractions from your child’s bedroom and prevent them from playing when they are meant to be sleeping and resting.

Outdoor Space

Do you have a garden or backyard? If so, this is great news. You have your own private, outdoor space where your children can be exposed to more nature without you having to worry about them wandering off. Of course, children should still always be supervised, even in contained gardens. Make sure that the grass is trimmed, fence panels are secure and whole and that other threats are managed, such as removal of pet faeces.

As you can see, it is possible to create a truly great home environment for your children. Hopefully, some of the suggestions above will help you to achieve this goal!
