Designing the bedroom as a sanctuary for relaxation

Designing your bedroom as a sanctuary is one of the most transformative changes you can make to your quality of life. Sleep plays a key role in how you feel, including physical and mental health. So, from organising the space to adding natural materials, here are some tips.

Invest in High Quality Sleep

Most people have sleep issues without ever really considering that the quality of bedding might be the cause. Unfortunately, you get what you pay for when it comes to bedding, and an investment is required for the best experience. However, good quality beds, mattresses and sheets are well worth the money when you consider the benefits they offer. Something like a memory foam mattress can transform your overall comfort, ease pain and keep you cooler.

Declutter and Organise the Space

Because it is used for promoting sleepiness and relaxation, the bedroom should be free from overstimulation with as little distraction as possible. This includes electronics and even the TV! Extra stuff in the bedroom can also attract dust and lower the quality of the air you breathe when sleeping. Simple decluttering and space organisation can be a game-changer. Store things in drawers, closets and wardrobes, and ensure all surfaces are wiped clean and free from dust.

The Bedroom as a Sanctuary with Colours

Around 70% of Brits don’t get enough quality sleep, and that’s not good. Poor sleep contributes to mental stress and other serious issues. There are many tips for a better night’s rest that you can try. But have you considered the role of colour in the bedroom? Here are some to try out:

  • Blue promotes a sense of calmness and tranquillity and helps lower your heart rate.
  • Green can help with a smooth transition into sleep by promoting a sense of peace.
  • Other gentle hues, such as pinks and lavenders, dull stimulation and provide some calm.

Add Some Natural Materials

There’s nothing quite like the look, feel, and even aroma of natural materials such as wood in a home décor project, and the bedroom is no different. All of these elements combined will help promote a sense of calm in the bedroom. However, you can also consider organic and natural material for bedding, too, as synthetic materials can cause reactions when sleeping. Further, plants such as snake plants, peace lilies and spider plants will purify the air in the bedroom.

Engage More of Your Senses

The bedroom is a sensual place in more ways than one. Calm, peace and tranquillity will help you get a better night’s sleep, and it’s easier than ever. Modern LED lighting makes it much easier to control the lighting level of a room, and can even be controlled by voice or by smartphone. However, it’s not all about the look! Gentle aromas from scented candles help calm you down, and with Bluetooth speakers, it’s easy to drift off to gentle and relaxing music.

Summary

High-quality bedding, such as mattresses, is expensive, but worth the money when designing the bedroom as a sanctuary space. Colours also play a critical role and can promote sleep and relaxation. Of course, you can also appeal to other senses with aromas and gentle music.
