Five tips for a better nights rest

Feeling a little worse for wear in the mornings? Are you hitting the snooze button multiple times and forcing your tired body to get up for work? Chances are, you’re not getting the best night’s sleep because for those who do have a good night’s sleep, getting up should be a lot easier.

Here are five tips that will help you get a better night’s sleep and hopefully wake up on the right side of the bed tomorrow morning.

Buy the right bed and mattress

One of the main reasons why you might not be getting the best night’s sleep is that you’ve not got the right bed and mattress. When you buy a bed and mattress, it’s important to do your research, particularly when it comes to the type of sleeper you are.

Do you like sleeping in beds that seem to sink your body into them or do you enjoy lying on a more firm surface? It’s important that the bed and mattress are the right sizes and comfortable for your body so that you can easily drift off to sleep.

Invest in blackout blinds or a good eye mask

If you’re someone that struggles to get to sleep due to light, then it’s definitely worth considering some blackout blinds for your room. This is particularly helpful for those that are perhaps next to street lights that bleed a lot of light into the room. Blackout blinds are great because they help block out all of the light so you’re lying in the pitch black.

Alternatively, you could always try an eye mask if funds are too limited to spend on some new blinds.

Put away electronic devices before bedtime

Electronic devices are a habit that many people have when it comes to their bedtime routine and with social media being what it is, it’s a rabbit hole that lasts for hours. This does mean though that your eyes and brain are exposed to blue light which keeps you wired once you put down the phone or tablet device.

That means you’ll struggle to get off to sleep. With that being said, put away electronics at least an hour before bedtime so you can get off to bed easier.

Read a book or listen to spa music to relax

If you still find it hard to drift off even with electronics packed away, try reading a book or listening to spa music. These are two practices that help people to relax and naturally drift off to sleep in time.

Drink a cup of tea or hot chocolate

Finally, make sure you have a cup of tea or a hot chocolate by your bedside to sip on as you relax for bed. Pair it with your book and you’re sorted.

We all tend to have problems with our sleep at some point in life and it’s easy to sacrifice the sleep when life gets busy. However, sleep benefits our health and well-being in many ways, which is why you need plenty of it.
