Small home improvements that make things more comfortable

If you want to make your home more comfortable, you don’t have to take on loads of renovation projects and change everything around – in fact, it might be better not to do that at all and just focus on adding (or removing, as the case may be) small things because it’s often these small home improvements that make things more comfortable. With that in mind, keep reading to find out what you can do and how different things can be – it might just inspire you to get started.

Install A New Fireplace

One home improvement that can tick a lot of boxes, including style, warmth, and comfort all in one, is an inset electric fireplace. If you’re really excited to have a fireplace but you don’t want the fuss and expense of installing a traditional wood burning or gas one (or you can’t do it for any reason), this has to be your answer – it’s a fireplace that you can install easily and quickly just by adding it to a wall or mantel, and it’ll give you the look of a real fire without any of the mess or disruption.

These fireplaces are a great choice because they look amazing, but they also work – they’ll heat up your living room or wherever else you might install one efficiently (so efficiently, in fact, that you might even be able to save money on your energy bills). Plus, you can have various styles and sizes, so no matter what your room might be like, there’ll be an inset electric fireplace that works for you.

Change Your Window Treatments

Something else you can do easily and quickly and for a relatively small sum of money is to change your window treatments. The fact is that heavy old curtains or blinds that don’t even fully block out the light can actually make your home feel less comfortable, which is exactly the opposite of what they’re meant to do! Upgrading your window treatments to something much nicer that really works and does the job is a simple thing to do, and as long as you look for blackout curtains, you’ll know for sure that no light’s going to be able to get in, giving you the privacy and cosiness you’ll want.

It might not sound like something that can make all that much difference in your home, but new curtains really could be the answer to making things more comfortable without going to too much effort. The great thing is you can pick any colour or style you want, and you can even make your own (or choose fabric and have someone else make them), so don’t limit your imagination and come up with something exciting that keeps your home private, energy efficient, and comfortable.

Be Organised

A cluttered home can make you feel absolutely stressed out and completely disorganised (even if you know where everything is, if it’s in a lot of mess and clutter, you’re still going to feel bad about it, even subconsciously). So if that’s the case, the easy answer is to get yourself more organised and tackle that clutter. Yes, it can be easier said than done, but there are some useful ways to deal with it that can help you and make your home more comfortable at the same time, so it’s well worth putting time aside to do it.

That’s actually the first step – putting time aside. You’re going to need a bit of time to first do your decluttering, especially if it’s been a while, so make sure you’ve got that time spare, otherwise you’re going to feel even more rushed and more stressed and you might not get the job finished (which can leave your home messier than it was before).

Once you’ve done the first big lot of decluttering, make it a regular part of your week and do 10 minutes here and there when you can spare the time. In that way, things should stay a lot tidier and you’ll enjoy your comfortable home a lot more. If you’re finding it hard to put things away, why not get some furniture that has extra storage in it? Or what about installing new shelves? Or, if you’ve got a lot of stuff and you don’t know what to do it with, how about renting a storage unit so it’s out of the house and you can work out how to handle it bit by bit but still have a lovely, tidy house in the meantime?

Upgrade Your Bedding

When you think about it, your bed really should be the ultimate when it comes to comfort in your home – after all, it’s where you need to be relaxed enough to drift off to sleep and then sleep well through the night, so it’s important to do what you can to make it as comfy as possible.

It could be that your bedding is due for a bit of an upgrade, especially if it’s quite old or it’s made from any kind of material that isn’t as soft and luxurious as it could be. You’ll need high-quality sheets, a cozy duvet, and loads of soft pillows, and you’ll see what a massive difference it makes to your overall comfort and the quality of the sleep you get – which is vital if you want to be productive and healthy.

The best thing to do is to look for natural materials like cotton and linen because they’re not only breathable, but they feel lovely against your skin as well. And if your mattress isn’t quite as comfy as it used to be, getting a new one should be on the agenda. Of course, mattresses are expensive (at least, the good ones are, and it’s never wise to buy a cheap one), so if you need to save for a bit before you get one, you can use a mattress topper in the meantime that gives the mattress a bit more bounce and softness. Now that really is a small home improvement that can definitely make things more comfortable!
