My favourite floor trends

Flooring trends

It’s been quite a long time since I wrote an interior related post and lately I’ve been obsessed with looking at what’s hot on the flooring front! Now don’t get me wrong, I love the flooring that is down in my house but a girl can dream, right?

One of the most popular trends at the moment and a personal favourite of mine is natural wood. This is also known as ‘Rustic’ flooring and it has seen a massive increase in popularity over the last couple of years, which certainly shows no signs of slowing down and isn’t really a surprise – it’s gorgeous!

Not only is rustic flooring beautiful, it’s also timeless, so when it is installed in the home it never runs the risk of looking dated or out of style. It’s surprising how much of an effect something so simple can have, the stripped back natural feel really adds depth and character to any room that it is installed in, I mean if you shut your eyes you can just imagine the log burning stove in the corner of a cottage that’s in the middle of nowhere!

Another great thing about this type of floor is how easy it is to pair with interiors, if you’re using it for your living room or any other busy area of the house then think of it as a neutral undertone, it doesn’t need wood tones pairing up to it, instead it allows you the freedom to mix and match your colours. Wood flooring is great if you’re looking to keep in line with a traditional vibe, but it really does lend itself to contemporary modern accessories, so don’t worry if you think it won’t fit with your furnishings!

Another trend that has caught my eye is  parquet, as soon as I saw the familiar design it hit me right in the nostalgic feels. This type of flooring originated many moons ago in a little place called France and was used in the finest of houses and castles, which explains the grand vibe that it oozes! Parquet flooring has often been described as ‘an acquired taste’ but I think it’s elegant and comforting, in a way that it almost reminds of me being back in the school hall with all my friends! When it comes to installing parquet flooring, there are a couple of options available in the form of solid wood or engineered wood, so that’s down to personal preference, as well as being available in a number of shades and variants – making it a really versatile choice for any home.

Flooring trends

The past 12 months have seen the rise of grey interiors, something of which I’m fully on board with (my dressing room definitely gives that away!), but what I have also noticed over the last year or so is grey and paler floors becoming more common in the home. This trend runs perfectly with the Scandanavian look that is sweeping through houses across the country, the pale floors pair beautifully with fresh wooden furnishings and lend themselves to exposing maximum light within a room. In the past the colour grey has been described as ‘cold’ and ‘dull’ but as i mentioned previously, people are loving it at the moment, not only does grey flooring add a sense of sophistication but it really helps to make your room seem airy, brighter and more spacious.
