George’s Great British Kitchen – Nottingham

George's Great British Kitchen

One of our favourite places to eat with the kids in Nottingham city centre is George’s Great British Kitchen (George’s). Whenever we visit, we always have a great time and everyone is happy. I thought I’d share our most recent visit on here.

We always tend to visit on a Saturday and this was also the case for our last visit. We went with my mum and dad and the kids.

The kids love the seaside theme of the restaurant and always love having their photo’s taken in cut outs in the entrance.

On this occasion, it was really busy and we had to wait a little while for a table. We had a drink at the bar whilst we waiting. One of the things I like about George’s is the good variety of cocktails. It was two for one, so my mum and I both had a gin based lemonade type cocktail, which was yum.

After about 5 minutes we were shown to our table. We were slightly disappointed as we had asked for a hut (modelled on the huts you find at the seaside), but it was very busy, so we didn’t make a fuss.

We didn’t bother with starters and went straight for mains. I had the Cod Dog, which I’ve had before and is basically cod in a hot dog bun with chips and mushy peas. I prefer this to the standard fish and chips, which is what my dad ordered. Simon had the breakfast pie with stilton chips and it was actually much nicer than it sounded.

The kids all ordered from the kids’ menu. They had chicken burger, sausage and chips and fish and chips, which they all seemed happy with. I was a bit disappointed that they weren’t served in a bucket with a spade as they used to do. The kids used to love it. They also used to get hats to colour in which also kept them amused whilst they waited. Although I suspect it could be due to it being so busy.

The food was all tasty and everyone enjoyed it. The kids ate a good amount and we didn’t need to nag too much to get them to eat.

The kids all had the same dessert – doughnuts with dips, ice cream and candy floss. This is basically a kids dream! I must admit, I also had a sneaky taste!

The adults were all too full for dessert!

Overall we had a good meal, there were just a couple of minor niggles, which if resolved could’ve made it even better. I do really hope they start doing the buckets and spades again as this was such a quirky feature that our kids used to love.

I’d still recommend George’s. The atmosphere is busy and lively (always good when you’re dining with kids), the food is tasty and the drinks are really good.

George’s looks like a really good place to dine in with kids, Jemma! 🙂 I’d love to try the Cod Dog, too! 😉
