A half term break in the Peak …

During October half term, we decided to book a cottage in the Peak District for 6 nights. I thought I’d share the highlights from our trip. Whenever we go away we always tend to go abroad, but with having been to Spain during the summer and with Tenerife booked for late December, we needed to keep the cost of our October break as low as possible. We don’t live that far from the Peak District and recently we’ve taken a few day trips there and have really enjoyed walking and exploring with the kids. We decided that it would be…

Mam Tor with kids

We currently staying in the Peak District where we’ve been exploring lots of the local villages and doing various walks. Yesterday we walked up Mam Tor and I thought I’d share our experience (and tips) of walking Mam Tor with kids. I never walked up Mam Tor before and the day before we actually walked it, I didn’t actually think we’d be able to do it with the kids. The night before, I spent time on Google, trying to find out if walking up Mam Tor with kids was actually advisable! During my research I cam across the National Trust’s…

Blue John Cavern – Peak District

We’re currently staying in the Peak District for October half term and today we paid a visit to the Blue John Cavern, near Castleton in Hope Valley. The Blue John Cavern is home to Blue-Stone Stone, a beautiful purple and yellow mineral that has been mined in the Cavern for many centuries and continues to be mined in the Cavern during the winter months. Oscar is quite into his stones and minerals, so we knew that he’d love visiting the Cavern. We followed the signs from Castleton to the Cavern, which is well signposted. We parked on the adjacent road,…

A family day in London

At the weekend, we went down south to stay with our friends, Emil and Richard. They live in Hemel Hempstead and we regularly go and stay with them for the weekend. In fact, last time we went down I made a little video on our stay, which you can see here. The reason for this trip was to celebrate their little boys second birthday. They had planned a party on the Sunday, so we decided to make a weekend of it and go down on the Friday night and stay with them for two nights. Oscar has recently been covering…

Celebrating 11 years of marriage with a weekend …

At the weekend, Simon and I celebrated our 11 year wedding anniversary. For the past few years we have taken advantage of the offer of childcare from our parents to allow us to go away, just the two of us. For this anniversary we decided to visit Manchester for two nights. We both like a good city break. We¬†both like shopping, eating nice food and visiting nice bars, so we often opt for a City break if we get the chance. We travelled up to Manchester on Friday after Simon had finished work. The traffic was pretty awful, so we…

Our trip to Norfolk

I’ve been meaning to write this post for a while now, but I never seemed to be able to get round to it. However, although I’m posting well after our trip took place, it’s a trip that I want to capture as we had such a lovely time. During February half-term we went to Norfolk for a week long break. I’d wanted to visit Norfolk for quite a while, so I was looking forward to exploring the area. We’ve travelled quite a bit and as a result I’m really particular about where we stay whenever we go away. We had…

Our recent mini break – Peppa Pig World

One Friday in the middle of June Oscar’s school had an Inset Day. We decided to make the most of it and have a trip down to Peppa Pig World near Southampton. I’ve wanted to take the kids for a while and thought that this was probably the last year that Oscar would enjoy it as he’s started to outgrow Peppa Pig. We decided that we’d drive down after work on Thursday, stay over close to the park and on Friday we’d stay somewhere which was on the way back home. In the end we decided to stay at the…

Pentahotel Derby – The Grand Opening Party

Pentahotels are a relatively new hotel brand, who appear to be popping up everywhere. They position themselves as modern, funky and a little bit different. We love to travel and love staying in hotels, particularly if they’re a little bit different, so I was delighted when hubby and I were invited to attend the Pentahotel Derby Grand Opening Party. Pentahotels aim to offer a new vibrant concept in the world of hotels, with guest checking in at the bar, free pool tables in the lounge, along with Playstation consoles and free movies in the bedrooms. All at an affordable price. Simon was keen to come along,…

Our visit to Center Parcs Winter Wonderland

We spent this weekend at the Sherwood Forest Center Parcs, with Simon’s family, celebrating his Mum and Dad’s 40th Wedding Anniversary. We’ve been to Center Parcs a few times, particularly since we’ve had kids. It’s just so easy – we can load up the car and we’re there is 40 minutes! Plus, it’s so well geared up for kids that it means we all have a good time. Even though we are regular visitors, I’ve never been during Winter Wonderland time – which they do on the run up to Christmas – but I highly recommend it.  The singing reindeer! We arrived…
