Inspiration for home updates during coronavirus

Inspiration for home updates during coronavirus

Many of us are stuck at home due to the coronavirus outbreak. That does not mean we have to stay on the sofa and get depressed about the scary events happening around the world. There are lots of ways to make the most of this time at home and turn your refuge into a place that will increase your mental well being and peace of mind.

Renovate Extra Space

What better way to take advantage of this extra time at home than to finally get started on those home renovation projects that you’ve been putting off? For example, now is a great time to take on that loft conversion that has been on your to-do list for months or even years. You can turn valuable space into a living area to relax in and enjoy. The beautiful thing about a loft conversion is that this is a space that does not often have extra electrical wiring or plumbing to worry about. You might even want to make it into a spare bedroom or Airbnb rental to make some extra income when COVID-19 is passed.

Even if you’re not converting a loft, there may be other home renovation projects that you have had on your mind. Now is an excellent time to get started! However, perhaps you should not begin on a bathroom or kitchen renovation until after the quarantine. These projects may be too disruptive to life at home when you are spending all of your time there.

Organise Your Storage Areas

Your kitchen cabinets, pantry, closets and other storage areas often become spots to dump items when you are done using them. Make the use of this time to organise these areas. Follow these steps:

  1. Remove everything.
  2. Sort and remove the rubbish.
  3. Prepare reusable items for donation.
  4. Decide whether you need to invest in a remote storage unit.
  5. Put organised items back, starting with the larger or heavier items.

The benefits of an organisation project are many. You may find that you have several belongings that you no longer use, and those can be thrown away, donated, or even sold to fund other projects or adventures. Doing so will immediately create more space, so you may more easily see and access the items you do use. The key with an organisational project is to maintain it. Don’t allow yourself or your family members to quickly pile up clutter in your storage areas, directly after you have organised them.

Try Some DIY Home Decorating

A fun and inexpensive way to make your home more cosy and personalised is to create your own decor. There are many simple do-it-yourself home decorating projects that you can do while you self-quarantine, and many of them do not even require a trip to the craft store. If you do need to get supplies though, you can pick things up online for a very reasonable price. Plus, you may even be able to save some money on these by finding a coupon for wherever it is you’re looking to shop. Once you have your supplies, you can go ahead and create something new, or restore an old or out-dated item with a fresh look. Most DIY projects for updating your home decor do not take very long either, so you might find time to do something (or a few things) in every room. When you’re able to invite friends over again after the coronavirus has passed, they will be astonished at all that you have changed!
