Since January, when I started my marathon training, I’ve been trying hard to eat better and include more protein in my diet. As well as to benefit my training, I was keen to shed a few pounds too! Now the marathon is over, I’m keen to continue the new habits and keep my diet healthy with lots of protein rich foods, so I was really excited to be contacted by Exante to see if I fancied trying out a few of their products – I never say no to food! The brand have previously marketed themselves as a diet product.…

Hopefully you’ve read Part 1 of my London Marathon experience. If not, it’s probably worth having a quick glance over before reading this post. So, I was finally there, all ready to go. I felt good, but deep down was a little anxious about whether my recent foot injury would actually hold up enough for me to get over that elusive finish line. I was surprised how quick the race got going and my offcial race stats say I crossed the start at 10.14am, 14 minutes after the race began, which is quite good, athough I perhaps shouldn’t be surprised…

Spoiler alert!! I did it!!! It’s taken me a while to get around to writing this, mainly because I’ve experienced a whole array of emotions and I think I needed a little time to process the experience. A week ago today I still was sure if I’d be able to do it. Worried that it would be my longest run ever and anxious about injuries flaring up and forcing me to stop. I was determined, but also knew that not everyone who starts, finishes. I want to make sure I capture, what is one of the best weekends of my…

It’s two days to go until I run the London Marathon and I’m getting anxious now, so I’ve decided to try and occupy my mind by writing a couple of blog posts. I’ve been off work today and mostly been at home, so my mind has had time to actually think about what I’m going to be doing on Sunday. It’s also had chance to get super paranoid and I actually convinced myself earlier that I have a sore throat (I don’t!). It’s amazing what an anxious mind can conjure up! I’ve just finished packing so thought I’d share what…

Only one week to go! Before I get carried away, I just want to apologise for the lack of non-marathon related posts recently. Marathon training, working, and the general craziness of life with three children has meant that there really isn’t enough hours in the day to fit in everything that I’d like to. I’m not doing any running this week, so I’m hoping that I can catch up on adding some blog posts about what we’ve been up to. It will help keep my increasingly anxious mind occupied too! So, as I said, only one week to go until…

As I write it is only 12 days until the London Marathon!! I’m excited but am feeling impatient and anxious about getting to the big day feeling well and with no injuries! My foot is still playing up! After my foot hurting a bit after my 11 miles, I thought I’d wait longer than usual before heading out to run again. I did my usual exercise class at work on the Wednesday, which consisted of lots of kettle bell stuff. I then went out on Thursday to do 5 miles. The first 3 were fine, but after that my foot…

After hurting my foot doing my 18 mile run a few weeks back, I’ve been easing off slightly to try and help it repair. Much of last week was spent with me stressing that it could be a stress fracture and that it wouldn’t heal on time. This irrational worry was only fueled by spending far too much time on Google! Apparently this is very normal as we get closer to the end and is infact termed ‘maranoia’! I definitely have it! After taking a week off, the plan was to do a decent run on Sunday. My training plan…

So, here I am having notched up 16 and 18 miles. Although one slight hitch, the day after doing 18 miles, my right foot hurt. A lot! Thankfully it went after a couple of days, so I didn’t think too much about it. It’s Easter weekend at the min and as I’m a week ahead of my plan I decided to do 11 miles as my long run. I’ve put my body through quite a lot recently and I thought the rest would do it good (I can’t believe I’m calling 11 miles a rest, what has happened to me?!).…

I’ve had a really good week in terms of training! As Simon’s been out quite a bit in the evenings, I’ve been doing my short runs in my lunch hour at work, so on Tuesday and Thursday I did 3 miles. Tuesday’s run was a killer, my legs felt like lead. I get that every so often and I have no idea why it happens. I’m not sure if it’s dehydration or whether it’s just because I ran too close to Sunday’s long run? Thankfully Thursday’s run wasn’t as bad. Wednesday lunchtime, I went to the exercise class that runs…

I didn’t manage to do my three runs this week due to working away on the Tuesday night. Instead I did 4 miles on Thursday night, followed by 14 miles on Saturday, which went well. For my long run, I decided to run 5 miles to our local Park Run, which I ran and then another 6 miles home, through our local nature reserve. It actually went pretty well, it was another perfect day for running. Although, I have to admit, the last mile hurt a little (ok, a lot!). Following my long run I had my protein shake and…

It’s been pretty quiet on the blog lately. We went away for half term, work’s been pretty full on and trying to squeeze in marathon training too has meant that something has had to give and unfortunately it’s been my blogging. I can’t promise it won’t happen again as it very well might, but that’s life hey?! I thought it would be good to provide an update as to how the marathon training is going. Week 7, which was before we went away was a bit rubbish. My shin was hurting so I only managed one run in the week.…
