The Liebster Award

I was really excited to be nominated by Fairies and Pirates for the Liebstar Award. My first blog award! Ok, so it’s hardly the Brilliance in Blogging Awards, but I’m still excited, so thank you Isabella! The Liebster Award is about helping raise awareness of new blogs and bloggers. Although my blog was actually started almost 3 years’ ago, it was only in November that I actually properly got in to blogging. Previously It had been a bit of a diary of the twins’ early days, that I didn’t really share it. I started to post regularly in November, set up…

Capturing the special moments – April

April has seemed like a short month for us. I suspect that’s because we went on holiday for a week at the beginning of the month. It’s also been a great month for us too! We went to Portugal to celebrate my parents’ 50th wedding anniversary and had a great time.    When we returned from holiday, the weather had finally got better and it felt so much more like Spring – hurrah!     I did some baking with the twins for the first time ever. I’ve wanted to do it for a while as I love baking, but…

Deciding on a name

When you’re having a baby choosing an appropriate name is often a daunting task. It’s such a huge responsibility and it’s so important to get it right. After all you don’t want to be bored of your child’s name after a few months! When I was pregnant with Oscar, Simon and I had the usual chats about names. However, I don’t remember it being that difficult. We didn’t know we were having a boy, so had to have a name for a boy and a name for a girl prepared. I know some people decide when their baby is born,…

Capturing the special moments – March

A little later than planned due to going on holiday, but here’s the round up of what we got up to in March. The highlights include: Running my first 10k of the year and doing it in under an hour! Lots of shopping for our holiday. Finally getting rid of the weight I put on over Christmas. A day out at The Great Central Railway during their Peppa Pig weekend. Having a lovely Mother’s Day. A night out with hubby and my parents for cocktails and an amazing burger. Watching Oscar take part in singing a song for Comic Relief at…

Capturing the special moments – February

I’m always going on about how fast time flies, particularly since we’ve had children and I’ve recently been thinking about how to ensure we capture those special moments. I’m not just talking about birthday and other things classed as “special occasions”, but those little magical moments that happen all the time when you have children. So, I’ve decided that at the end of every month, I’m going to take some time to reflect about all the things that have happened during the month and I’m going to capture them here. As they say a “picture paints a thousand words”, so…

Spring is in the air…

Spring is in the air. The nights are slowly getting lighter, the weather is getting warmer and I can hear birds. I hate winter, but in contrast absolutely love spring (and summer), here are the reasons why: The warmer weather Getting Oscar, a typically lazy five-year old, and two-year old twins ready to leave the house in winter can only be described as a military operation. By the time I’ve managed to locate everybody’s hat, scarf and gloves, along with making sure fingers are in the right holes and coats are fully zipped, I’m ready for a lie down! Warmer…

Slimming World – week 1 update

I posted last week that I was planning on trying the Slimming World programme. Well, I did and I’m delighted to report that I’ve lost 3lbs! As you can tell I’m very pleased about this! My first week went well and I thought it would be useful to share the good and not so good bits about the programme. Slimming World – the good bits You can eat , so there is no reason to be hungry- people (including me) question how this can work, but you are clearly eat lots of the right foods- fruit, veg, pasta, rice, potatoes,…

Venturing into the Slimming World

I’ve decided to try out the Slimming World plan and I begin today. Since having the twins, two years ago, I’ve been really good at losing the weight, exercising and generally eating healthy. I weighed around 9st 8lb (I even managed to get down to 9st 4lb before we went away last May), which is a realistic and maintainable weight for me. I felt fit, healthy and was happy with how I looked in my clothes. However, over Christmas I put on 6lbs and I still haven’t lost it! In fact this week I’ve even added an extra 2lbs! I…

My winter essentials

I hate winter (apart from Christmas of course)! I hate miserable cold weather. I hate how it’s dark when I leave for work in the morning, and dark when I leave work at night. I’m not quite as cheery in winter and I hate how it affects my skin and how I often end up with a cold sore or two (evil things!).  However, this year I’ve created a list of things that get me through this horrible season – my winter survival kit. I thought I’d share here: Berocca – definitely ‘me on a good day’! It makes me…

Oscar’s first skiing lesson

Yesterday Oscar had his first skiing lesson. He had some money for his birthday and we broached the topic with him to see if he was keen and he was. I learnt to ski at the Snowdome in Tamworth about seven years ago, and getting the kids to learn at some point has always been in our plans. I was 24 when I learnt to ski and it took me a LONG time! I’m a bit of a scaredy cat, so it took me lots of lessons to finally get the hang of it. If I’m honest I think I…

Oscar is 5!

Yesterday was Oscar’s fifth birthday! I can’t believe it’s been five years since he was born! Why does time seem to speed up when you have kids? He had a great couple of days celebrating. He was at school on the actual day, so we had a party at a play centre in the Sunday, which was enjoyed by all! On his actual birthday, we ate pancakes and opened presents, before he went to school. He particularly loved his Flik Flak watch, remote controlled dinosaur and his Hot Wheels sets! After school, went to our local pub for a special…
